Recently while on charter in the Southern Bahamas there was the super moon! This picture was of the moon in the penultimate evening of the super moon, twas a clear and dreamy sky. We could not help but dance in the Bahamian moonlight!

"Dancing in the Moonlight" is a song written and originally recorded by the French-American rock group King Harvest. It was released as a single in 1972 and reached number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100. In 1994 the Baha Men released the song as a single, but it failed to chart. Their version was later used in the movie Fat Albert. In 1994 Baha Men music was also featured in the movie My Father the Hero. The movie was mostly filmed on Paradise Island with a purpose built set on Cabbage Beach.

"André Arnel (Gérard Depardieu), a Frenchman divorced from his wife, takes his teenage daughter, Nicole (Katherine Heigl), on vacation with him to The Bahamas. She is desperate to appear as a woman and not a girl, so in order to impress a local boy Ben (Dalton James), she makes up more and more ridiculous stories, starting with André being her lover and leading to some bizarre assumptions by the rest of the community."

The film featured music and appearances by the Baha Men. The group's songs create the movie's island soundtrack.
"Back to the Island"
"Mo' Junkanoo"
"Gin and Coconut Water (Traditional)"
"Land of the Sea and Sun"
"Oh, Father"
"Island Boy"

During the summer of 2000, one of the most familiar, yet unanswered questions, “Who Let the Dogs Out”, launched one of the most beloved bands, the Baha Men, into our hearts and homes. Their pulsating Island rhythms seemed to appeal to everyone, as “Who Let the Dogs Out” immediately rose to the top of the charts throughout the world. They were a band long before this moment, but as Rolling Stone Magazine declared, “After 20 years, the Baha Men are an overnight success.”

Yacht Sweet Escape has a huge library of films that feature The Bahamas. Be sure to ask for recommendations as the list is extensive! You may want to dance in the moonlight every night while on charter, with an amazing audio system onboard you can find your groove.

Literally: Escapism onboard Yacht Sweet Escape

Become It, Awaken It, Kill It and Own It

Lyford Cay resident Sir Sean Connery and Johnny Depp at the Bahamas International Film Festival, 2009

Lyford Cay resident Sir Sean Connery and Johnny Depp at the Bahamas International Film Festival, 2009

June 16, 2009, in an interview with Vanity Fair, Johnny Depp (owner of Little Hall’s Pond Cay in the Exuma’s) speaks of the need for escapism in a world gone wrong. How does the individualist, he wonders, find dignity and purity in a plastic culture and a polluted world? “Little Hall’s Pond is my decompression,” he says. “It’s my way of trying to return to normalcy. There is a period once you finish a guy—a character—when you’re looking to go back to yourself, and sometimes it can manifest illness. I mean, after I made The Libertine“—in which Depp plays the debauched Earl of Rochester—“I was in bed for two weeks. When you’re working, you don’t get sick, then suddenly it hits you like a two-by-four. After Dillinger, my head was done in. I needed to escape. So being able to get on the boat and move allowed my head freedom again. Escapism is survival to me.”- DOUGLAS BRINKLEY, Vanity Fair

Sometimes, getting lost in a book, distracting yourself with a game, or letting your mind wander may be exactly what your brain needs. There are lots of water-sports and games onboard to keep you highly entertained, but there are the quieter moments that recharge and refresh the mind, body and soul. The latest literary additions to be found onboard Yacht Sweet Escape includes many of Oprah’s Book List 2.0 and more. The movies and television series are updated with genres across the board. Here are a few picks of books and television series in our current library we recommend for your charter.

It has been sitting on top of the Amazon Best sellers list ever since its debut, the longest run since Fifty Shades of Grey.

"It is Michelle Obama's personal story, of course, but I believe it's going to spark within you the desire to think about your own becoming." -Oprah Winfrey

Meet a new rosé wine: Studio by Miraval

A new rosé named ‘Studio by Miraval’ has been created by the Provence château that remains jointly owned by Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

‘Studio by Miraval’ rosé has been earmarked for a global launch on 5 March this year, according to a statement released by the estate.

Beyond a minimalist bottle label that has design cues reminiscent of the perfume industry, the new Provence rosé is a blend of Cinsault, Grenache, Rolle and lesser known grape variety Tibouren.

The launch of ‘Studio’ follows success for Miraval rosé, which made its debut in 2012.

It takes inspiration from a music recording studio installed on the Provence estate by previous owner, and jazz musician, Jacques Loussier. Several high-profile bands, including Pink Floyd and AC/DC, have recorded there, said a press statement.

‘This new rosé will be the common thread linking a location, a legend, a legacy, and, above all, a love of art,’ said a statement, adding that the new wine was intended to evoke the spirit of the French Riviera.

The recording Studio

The studio was created in 1977 by jazz pianist Jacques Loussier and sound engineer Patrice Quef. Loussier began by recording his own work, mainly for films, and then started taking on French clients such as Maxime Le Forestier and Pierre Vassiliu. Miraval achieved fame thanks to Pink Floyd, who came there in 1979 to record part of their album The Wall, the liner notes of which credit Miraval. Subsequently, equipped with one of the first SSL mixing consoles in France, Miraval recorded AC/DC, The Cure, Muse, Wham!, David Sylvian (solo and with Rain Tree Crow), Chris Rea, Sade, the Go-Betweens, Steve Winwood, Yes, UB40, Chris Braide, Shirley Bassey, the Gipsy Kings, Shakatak, Rammstein, Fonky Family, Kelly Family, Blankass, Silmarils, Jimmy Barnes and many others.

In 1992, Loussier sold Miraval to an American buyer. The studio remained active, in particular for the recording of Jacques' trio's albums. Since 2003, when Courtney Love spent several weeks there, the studio has throttled back, and it has suffered from the declining record sales plaguing the music industry in the 2000s. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have been renting Miraval since the summer of 2008, which probably hinders commercial exploitation of the recording studio.

The Hydraulic Swim Platform you didn’t know you needed and now can’t charter without. Engineered for your enjoyment.

Hydraulic Swim Platform with Rain-head shower. The shower operates by the push of a led button.

Hydraulic Swim Platform with Rain-head shower. The shower operates by the push of a led button.

Yacht Sweet Escape completed a major refit in 2018.  Many additions were made so that Yacht Sweet Escape would be the ultimate in charter yachts for comfort; designed to surpass the highest of expectations of even the most seasoned charter guest.  One of those additions was the hydraulically controlled swim platform.  It may sound technical but what it simply means is your overall experience onboard is undeniably a first class one.

The hydraulically controlled swim platform was custom designed and manufactured by TNT Lift Systems for Yacht Sweet Escape.  TNT Lift Systems, Inc is the producer of the highest quality (316L Stainless Steel) boat lift systems in Florida and the USA.

The system allows for a number of key features for the charter guest.  While underway, it allows for a third jet-ski to be secured.  Jet-skis are always fun on charter!  The real benefit is when anchored and the jet-ski has been removed there is a fabulous submersible deck!  This deck which is hydraulically lowered into the water allows guests to have unparalleled ease of entry into the water with the toys like the kayaks, paddle-boards, the Flyboard and the Sea-bobs. Any of the huge array of water toys onboard!

The more intrepid of swimmers can relax in the water with the deck below them offering peace of mind, a sort of kiddie-pool if you like.  The lift can also assist in getting guests out of the water with simplicity and no effort of tediously climbing a clumsy ladder.  Just swim up to the platform, sit and the crew can raise you parallel to the aft with a press of the button.   Any age can enjoy this feature and even those who have struggled with getting in and out of the sea will find it accesses a relaxing swim anywhere anytime while at anchor!

It is truly a hidden gem onboard for guests.  It has become a favorite for crew and guests alike.  Yacht Sweet Escape knows you will enjoy this new added feature as much as we do!
